HSN & GST rates

Look up the GST rate for any HSN code and add tenant-specific overrides (CGST/SGST/IGST/cess) when your product's rate differs from the system default.

Overview

Every invoice line needs a GST rate, and GST pulls that rate from the HSN code on the product. Neev ships a built-in HSN table so most codes are already filled in — you do nothing. When your goods carry a rate that the default doesn't match, you add your own override for that one code, and from then on every invoice and every filing uses your number instead.

Where to find it

Web only. Open SettingsHSN & rates (/settings/hsn-rates). The whole Settings area is the Owner's desk — only the Owner sees it in the sidebar. There is no mobile screen for HSN rates.

The page is one table: HSN code, description, the GST %, then CGST / SGST / IGST broken out (the split columns hide on a narrow screen), and a Source column. Search by HSN code with the box at the top.

Key concepts

  • — the 4-to-8 digit code that classifies a product for GST. The rate follows the code, so getting the code right is what gets the tax right.
  • System — Neev's built-in default for a code. Shipped for everyone, not yours to edit or delete. Shows a grey System tag.
  • Custom — a rate you added for a code. It sits on top of the system default and wins for your business. Shows a pink Custom tag, and only Custom rows carry the edit and delete buttons.
  • CGST / SGST / IGST / cess — the four rate parts you set on an override. CGST + SGST apply within your state; IGST applies on inter-state sales; cess is the extra levy on a few goods (leave it 0 if none).

Common workflows

1
Find a code's rate

Open Settings → HSN & rates and type the HSN code in the search box. The row shows the GST % and the CGST/SGST/IGST split, with a System or Custom tag.

2
Add a custom rate

Hit Add HSN. Enter the HSN code (4–8 digits), a description, and the CGST, SGST and IGST percents (cess too if it applies). Each rate must be between 0 and 100. Save — the new row appears tagged Custom and takes effect from now.

3
Edit a custom rate

On a Custom row, click the pencil. The code is locked; change the description or the rates and save. System rows have no pencil — they can't be changed here.

4
Remove a custom rate

On a Custom row, click the trash icon and confirm. The override is removed and the built-in System default applies to that code again.

Role notes

This screen is Owner-only. The Owner holds every platform setting, so the Owner can open the page and use Add HSN, Edit, and Delete. Those controls render for nobody else.

The Accountant does not have settings access and won't see this page in the sidebar — Accountant covers payments, collections and the Tally export, not platform configuration. So an Accountant cannot add, edit or delete an HSN rate. They do live with the result of it: the rate set here is what shows up on every invoice line, feeds the GSTN e-invoice and GSTR filings, and carries into the Tally export they pull, so a wrong rate is a problem they'll feel even though they can't fix it on this page.

Tips & time-savers

Tip

You only need to touch this page for the odd code that's wrong. Leave everything else on System — those defaults are maintained for you, so adding an override you don't need just gives you one more number to keep current. Search for the code first; if the System rate already matches, there's nothing to do.

Deleting a Custom override is the clean undo — it doesn't blank the rate, it just drops back to the System default for that code. So if an override was a mistake, delete it rather than trying to retype the original numbers.

Gotchas

Warning

These rates are the source of truth for tax on every invoice line and for the GSTN e-invoice and GSTR exports. A wrong override doesn't stay on this page — it flows straight into the invoices you raise and the returns you file. Double-check CGST, SGST and IGST before you save a Custom rate.

The Import CSV button is on the page but switched off — bulk import isn't built yet. For now, add codes one at a time with Add HSN.
